वर्ष 1922 में स्‍थापित होने के बाद से, दिल्‍ली विश्‍वविद्यालय का लोकप्रिय नाम डी.यू. ने स्‍वयं को भारत में उच्‍च शिक्षा की प्रमुख संस्‍था के रूप में प्रतिष्ठि‍त किया है। भारत की राजधानी में स्थित यह विश्‍वविद्यालय राष्‍ट्र में ज्ञान का एक प्रकाश स्‍तम्‍भ है और तृतीयक शिक्षा में उत्‍कृष्‍टता के लिए इसे एक रूपक(मेटाफॉर) के रूप में मान्‍यता दी गई है। उत्‍तर एवं दक्षिण दो परिसरों के माध्‍यम से कार्यरत यह विश्‍वविद्यालय और इसके महाविद्यालय दिल्‍ली में चारों तरफ फैले हुए हैं और न केवल बौद्धिक प्रवचनों के‍ लिए, बल्कि सांस्‍कृतिक पारस्‍परिक विचार-विमर्श हेतु जीवंत स्‍थान के रूप में कार्य करता है।

अपने 90 महाविद्यालयों, 16 संकायों, 86 विभागों, 23 केंद्रों और 3 संस्‍थानों से युक्‍त यह विश्‍वविद्यालय उत्‍कृष्‍ट संकाय, उन्‍नत पाठ्यक्रमों, अपने क्षेत्र में अग्रणी शिक्षाशास्‍त्र, व्‍यापक पाठ्येतर गतिविधियाँ और अत्‍याधुनिक बुनियादी ढांचे के साथ लगभग सभी ज्ञान के क्षेत्रों में पाठ्यक्रमों की एक विस्‍तृत शृंखला के माध्‍यम से विशिष्‍ट शैक्षिक अवसर प्रदान करने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है।

कई भूतपूर्व महान विद्यार्थियों की मातृ संस्‍था के रूप में इसने मानव प्रयास के विभिन्‍न क्षेत्रों में स्‍वयं की पहचान बनायी है, विश्‍वविद्यालय बौद्धिक संसाधनों के विशाल समूह से संपन्‍न है। विश्‍वविद्यालय को यह गौरव प्राप्‍त है कि विदेशी राज्‍यों के कई प्रमुखों और भारत के एक प्रधानमंत्री इसके विद्यार्थी रहे हैं जबकि एक अन्‍य ने इसके संकाय को सुशोभित किया है। भारत के कई प्रख्‍यात साहित्‍यकार, बुद्धिजीवी, वैज्ञानिक, अर्थशास्‍त्री, विधिवेता, लोकसेवक, रक्षाकर्मी,राजनीतिज्ञ, खिलाड़ी, फिल्‍मी हस्‍ती, पत्रकार और उद्योगपति इस महान संस्‍था के विद्यार्थी अथवा संकाय सदस्‍य रहे हैं।

हमारे महाविद्यालय को उच्‍च शिक्षा संस्‍थानों के लिए स्‍थापित विभिन्‍न अखिल भारतीय रैंकिंग के शीर्ष पर खुद को पाना कोई आश्‍चर्य नहीं है। विश्‍वविद्यालय को प्रतिष्ठित इंस्टिट्यूशन ऑफ एमिनेंस (आई.ओ.ई) का दर्जा दिया गया है।

Ever since its inception in 1922, the University of Delhi (informally known as Delhi University or DU) has been at the forefront of teaching-learning in diverse areas of higher education. The University offers exceptional educational opportunities straddling a wide range of programmes and advanced curricula taught by renowned faculty. Besides offering an avant-garde pedagogy, the University offers comprehensive extracurricular activities and excellent infrastructure. The University’s robust educational enterprise comprising 90 Colleges, 16 Faculties, 86 Departments, 23 Centres and 3 Institutes is spread across North and South campuses covering Delhi’s geography.

Presidents of four nations have graduated from our University; one of our Prime Ministers graduated from the University, while another one decorated its faculty.
